• Dubai giving away at least 60 free Emirates tickets

More than 60 plane tickets will be given away to UAE residents in a new government-backed social media campaign that seeks to further cement Dubai’s position as a major destination for tourists.

The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) launched on Wednesday the #MyDubai competition that encourages expatriates and UAE nationals to post online a video or image showing their life or positive experiences in Dubai.

The post on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter should encapsulate what makes the UAE resident proud to call Dubai their home. And in exchange, they will get the chance to bag free return tickets for their loved ones or friends based abroad.

The competition runs from October 15, 2018 to January 31, 2019, and each week until February 2019, two residents will be chosen to bag the free tickets.

The winner will get Emirates economy flight tickets for two of their friends or family members, so they can visit them here in Dubai. Winners, however, cannot use the flight tickets.

According to Dubai Tourism, the initiative seeks to drive “increased visitation from expatriates’ friends and families, and further facilitate an increased length of their stay in Dubai.”

“The passion for the emirate that exists among both UAE nationals and the communities of more than 200 nationalities living here is a key driver of Dubai’s success,” noted Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Marketing.

“These residents take pride in posting about their experiences in the city, sharing special moments from Dubai with the world. The best advocates of a city are the people who live in it.”
Dubai aims to attract 20 million visitors per year by 2020. As of 2017, it was nearing its target, with nearly 16 million people visiting Dubai over a period of 12 months.

From January to March this year alone, the emirate welcomed 4.7 million international tourists, posting a 2 per cent increase over the same period last year.

The number of visitors from India, the top source of tourist traffic for Dubai, posted a 7 per cent increase, while the number of travellers from Russia went up by 106 per cent.

The photos, posts and videos submitted during the competition will form part of a dedicated microsite and will be re-shared across all #MyDubai social platforms.
