RTA launches Mobile Charging Station for Electric Vehicles
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has launched a ‘Mobile Charging Station for Electric Vehicles’, which is a vehicle that can travel to recharge the customer’s vehicle on demand.
The service will enable the client to continue the journey to the destination or to the nearest electric recharging station.
The mobile charging station was launched by Mattar Al Tayer, director general and chairman of the board of executive directors of RTA.
RTA will display the mobile charging station at WETEX 2018, which runs from today until Thursday at Dubai World Trade Centre.
The launch supports the UAE Green Development Strategy, RTA said. It is part of a long-term national initiative for building a green economy in the UAE under the theme ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’, the RTA added. It will also encourage people to own environmentally-friendly electric vehicles.
Al Tayer observed a briefing by Nasser Bu Shehab, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance, RTA, about the Mobile Charging Station for Electric Vehicles. The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions of the transport sector and support the response to emergency cases. The initiative will boost public confidence in the use of electric vehicles as a reliable alternative to fuel-powered vehicles.
The initiative is also compatible with the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, Dubai Plan 2021 and the UAE Vision 2021, the RTA said.
Al Tayer said the RTA is supplying the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) with 200 Tesla electric vehicles boasting of several features of self-driving technologies to beef up the limo fleet of the DTC. Fifty of these electric vehicles have already started operation, 75 others will be added before the end of this year, and the remaining 75 vehicles will be supplied in 2019.
DTC had coordinated with the concerned entities to ensure the operation of these vehicles by providing 13 electric charging stations.
